Oryx and Crake

I just finished the MaddAddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood. I've been a huge fan of dystopian stories since I was a kid, and this is one of the best I've read. There's essentially no visual imagery for it that I can find, which is super disappointing-- so I made some of my own. Atwood has such a rich creative vision in this story, filled with lots of wacky spliced animal hybrids and GMO creatures, I just need to see it visualized! The story takes place in a near-future world where a handful of giant, monolithic corporations have taken over society, and the environment has been decimated along with any sense of ethics. So... not that far from reality, really, which is why it's such an effective dystopia.

Also, here's a private commission I did recently of someone's Guild Wars characters. I thought I'd share, because I like how it turned out.

Batgirl Redesign

This character design themed website called Project Rooftop is having a Batgirl redesign contest. It sounded like a ton of fun, so over the past month or so I've slowly been working on this. I'm happy with it, whether or not this ends up being featured on the site. It was really fun to draw.

Monster Robot

Today's Sketch Dailies was Robot Monster... so I drew these two, who have popped up on this blog from time to time. What little girl doesn't dress her robot up like a monster every once in a while?

Otter Holmes

Today's @sketch_dailies prompt was Sherlock. I've drawn Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock so many times I thought I should change it up a little. So I made him an otter.

Ursula

Today's @sketch_dailies was Ursula from The Little Mermaid. I made her an evil, maniacal child.

Joan of Arc

Today's @sketch_dailies prompt. I drew this tonight while babysitting my cousins-- obviously I didn't have my usual drawing tools, so I was forced to draw it with a dull Ticonderoga #2 pencil on computer paper... just like the good old days.

Bonnie and Clyde

Today's Sketch Dailies prompt.

And here's a little peek at another illustration I'm working on... hoo.
